Why Buy Artificial Grass?
There are many very good reasons to buy artificial grass. When finished professionally, it looks as good (if not better) than great natural grass lawns and it is also very low maintenance, and will last a lifetime. Just imagine never having to mow the lawn again, or worry about bald patches, or burnt and dead grass during the summer. And not having a lawn mower that your neighbour can borrow can be a definite plus!
Traditionally, artificial grass has been used most often in sports arenas due it it's low maintenance properties and durability. These self same properties of all those astro turf installations now make it an ideal choice for residential lawns and gardens. Synthetic grass stands up extremely well to heavy use and needs no mowing or watering. Once it's laid you simply enjoy it with none of the common maintenance tasks associated with a grass lawn.
Garden grass installation
1. Remove all existing sod and/or existing surface, leaving room for 3-4"of base material. 2. Install your border - bender board or extruded concrete curbing are recommended and work great. You can also use your existing border. 
3. Lay base material, decomposed granite (1/4 minus) works great. In some regions where there is softer natural soil an additional compacted aggregate base may need to be laid first. 4. Grade base using grading rakes, take into consideration the general grade of the area for irrigation. 
5. Moisten and compact your base using a plate compactor or tamper. 
6. Lay weed barrier materials if desired. This will prevent weed & grass regrowth. 
7. Lay your artificial turf purchased from Arizona Turf Solutions. Generally turf products come in 15 foot widths and all adjoining sections must lay the same direction. 
8. Use a carpet style knife to cut shape for area. Cut turf from the backing. 
9. Use a carpet kicker to stretch turf. Stretching the turf eliminates expansion from heat and helps secure surface tightly to the ground. Use 4-6 inch long spikes or staples to secure stretch. 
10.Seam joints where two sections meet. There are many techniques for seaming, professional installers use nails, glue, tapes, and stitching. 
11. Secure perimeter using staples or spikes. 
12.Use a powerbroom to "bloom" your turf, if a powerbroom cannot be sourced it is possible to use a stiff nylon-bristled broom or carpet rake. 
13.Add infill, you can use silica sand, crumb rubber, or copper slag. There are companies advertising "no infill" products, though these are generally high density products with heavy secondary thatches we still recommend infilling all turf products. It will add years to the surface against trafficking and add weight to surface helping eliminate the need for re-stretching and maintenance.
14.Use your powerbroom to broom infill into thatch, generally 1-2 lbs per square foot are adequate. The infill should fall into the thatch and help your lawn stay standing up against all kinds of traffic. 
15.Use a leaf-blower to clean surface and clear debris.
 
 
 
Soccer grass installation
 
1. Clear any existing grass or vegetation on area for turf, spray a weed killer or grass blocker solution to ensure that no vegetation will grow under the turf area in the future. 
2. Once you are ready, apply crushed stone aggregate or decomposed granite. You can purchase this at your local rock yard or building supply warehouse. 
3. Once the crushed stone is applied, you will want to make sure the base is as level as possible. A water sod roller may be useful for this step. They are available for rental at most Armstrong locations. 
4. Once the crushed aggregate is compacted and level, use a 15-25 year weed barrier. Lay the weed barrier down using landscaping staples. 
5. Once you have laid the weed barrier, roll out the turf according to your area measurements. NOTE: It is important to lay the turf with all grass fibers or blades going in the same direction to ensure that all pieces of turf match up.
6. Make cuts in the turf using a standard carpet or box knife to fit the turf to desired area. You are essentially cutting the turf to create the exact shape of your area, so the fewer pieces of turf used the better; this will eliminate seaming pieces together. 
7. Now you are ready to attach the turf to your base. To attach the turf to the base use 6" galvinized nails. Drive in the nails 1/2" to 1" from the turf edge and every 4" to 6" along the turf perimeter. Start at one side of the application area so you can pull the turf tight from the other side. This process is the most important, so your turf is attached securely and properly. Drive in the nails around the perimeter of the area. Install nails 2' to 4' feet in the middle. 8. You need to fluff the grass up with a rake or power broom so that the infill can be applied. 9. The final step is to add the infill material, available to order at your local Armstrong Garden Center, of your choice. We recommend using approximately 2 lbs of infill material per square foot of turf. Silica Sand: Sand that has been tumbled to remove sharp edges. 10. Use a soft to medium bristled push broom to work the infill material into the turf.
